Course Description
Join Karlene Jean Kantner for a day in the studio designed for the creative gardener. This class will foster explorations in form, texture and materials related to plants, memory and storytelling. Karlene will demonstrate in the morning: sharing her slab building techniques and the ways her forms respond to specific plants or gardening projects. She will share insights into her approach to surface treatments and how these materials speak to her experiences in the natural world. Participants will then have the afternoon to work hands-on and consider the ways their creative processes can support their relationships with plant materials and the landscape. This workshop is meant to leave you with your head + heart full of inspiration but your suitcase empty. In the afternoon, we will be playing with and practicing techniques Karlene demonstrated in the morning. We will not be making finished objects to be fired and taken home.
